Free homebrewing class you say? Why yes, yes we do (technically there is a $10 dollar donation involved but that goes to The League for Animal Protection of Huntington). The class is this Sunday May 19th at The Lark Pub & Grub in East Northport, New York and will be run by Alan Talman of Karp’s Hardware and Homebrew. This class is a great chance for beginner to intermediate brewers to learn more or for those with an interest in homebrewing to get their foot in the door.

This event is part of both Long Island Craft Beer Week and the larger American Craft Beer Week celebrations. We can’t think of a better way to close out the boozy festivities than with a class to teach you how to brew your own. The event is hosted by Tim Kelly and the rest of the crew over at the Lark and they will offer Long Island beers they have on tap at a discounted price (keep it local).

Tim and Alan expect the brew clinic to go for about two and a half hours start to finish. As this is an introductory course Alan has decided to do an extract brewing demonstration. Brewing with extract means using liquid malt to create the wort for the beer and is an easier process to get into when starting out. The process is kind of like using a mix when baking. Also extract brewing is a good method for all new brewers to learn which makes this class useful to those who would watch while an experienced brewer crafts a beer from (almost) scratch.

So if you always wanted to homebrew but didn’t know how to get started, this is your chance. Head down to The Lark this Sunday at 2 p.m. for an afternoon of beer & education which will likely start at least an addiction or two to brewing. We can’t think of any better way to celebrate Long Island Craft Beer Week than helping both the community and aspiring home brewers.
