Craft Beer and Running

Beer and running don’t exactly go together in most peoples minds like peanut butter and jelly, but maybe they should. With Sayville Running Company & Blue Point Brewing Company’s annual 10 Mile Run to the Brewery rapidly approaching (Saturday, January 17 to be exact), we wanted to pay a little tribute to this odd couple. Well, really Alicia wanted to, so here are a couple reasons why beer and running can go hand in hand.

Beer: the new Gatorade?

Okay, not exactly, but a post run beer can actually be beneficial. That’s not to say you should slam five or six beers after a three mile run, but adding a beer into your post run hydration is not a bad idea. Also, knowing you have a beer waiting for you is good incentive to push through the end of a run and maybe even pick up the pace. Beer is mostly made up of carbohydrates which is what your body uses first for energy. Exercise depletes these reserves, so it’s helpful to replenish afterwards. But don’t forget that alcohol is also dehydrating, so don’t overdo it and also remember to drink plenty of water. keep reading...
