Get ready for a local favorite to become more widely available. Clare Rose Incorporated has scored themselves the distribution rights for another Long Island craft brewery, Port Jeff Brewing Company. This “marriage” of brewery and distributer begins today, November 3rd 2014. Clare Rose Inc. (CRI) supplies both counties on Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk, and with Port Jeff Brewing Company (PJBC) in the fold they now hold the rights to most of the elder breweries on Long Island. keep reading...

Harpoon UFO Pumpkin – Harpoon Brewery (2012)

Harpoon UFO Pumpkin  is the fall seasonal, pumpkin, offering from this well known Boston craft brewery. It pours a hazy light orange color with a generous white head that takes its time subsiding. There is vigorous carbonation present in the glass. The scent has notes of cinnamon and sugar but there is also a bit of sourness present that has lemony notes. It is a definite combination of sweet and sour that we have not seen much in pumpkin brews, as they all tend to smell predominately sweet. As far as taste goes however, this is a sweet affair. It has almost candy-like qualities but the body remains very light. While there is abundant visible carbonation, this does not carry over to mouth feel and it winds up tasting a bit on the flat side. There are notes of apple that infuse a bit of a cider aspect into it while still maintaining the overall sweetness. A bit of a spiced dryness comes on in the end, but ultimately sugar is the star of this show. keep reading...
