BLC Says:
Mikkeller Til Via Fra (To Via From) is a holiday seasonal, complete with a gift tag label for the beer enthusiast in your life. The brew comes in a festive 750ml bottle, so if you are lucky someone may share this “second beer of Christmas” with you. To Via From pours dark brown, almost black, with red hues when it is held up to the light. A dark tan head stays around for awhile, eventually leaving sticky lacing in it’s wake before settling into a thick, foam cap. This is definitely an attractive beer and the aroma takes its cues from this brews bold look. Once in the glass, a sweet, chocolate scent is noticeable with a hint of dark fruit and a touch of cream. There are woody notes, some subtle spice as well as wafts of alcohol which prevent the nose from being too sweet. Upon taking a sip, you immediately are hit with smokey, roasted flavors that are nicely balanced by dark fruit, spice and cocoa. These flavors seem to glide around the palate as the mouthfeel is smooth and slick with mild carbonation. The beer finishes on a dry, semi-sweet note leaving an aftertaste of chocolate, alcohol, faint fruit and a hint of nutty almond. This Baltic Porter is fairly thick in body and takes on more syrup and full notes as it warms and opens up. Savor this one with a friend or loved ones (hopefully both). keep reading...

Beer Loves Company 12 Days of Christmas (in 6 Days)!

12 days

Well, that’s it everyone. Santa came and went, the ball dropped and here we sit in 2013 with no major holidays on the horizon. Early January is really nothing to sing or carol about. It is kind of a cold, wintery, downer…or so we thought. Turns out the 12 Days of Christmas actually begin AFTER Christmas and go right through January 6 or 7 (depending on which version you follow). The Christmas carol which gave birth to this tradition was first published in England in 1780, though it is believed to have originated in France years prior (’tis the Saison anyone?). Here at BLC, we are improvising a bit and starting on January 3, one of the more uneventful days of the year. Oh, and we will be replacing the “true love gifts” (which are essentially all birds) with delicious craft beers. Two per day, to be exact. Think of it as 12 Days of Christmas with tasty liquid treats replacing the (insane) gifts of birds condensed and presented in the usual, cheerful BLC manner. So check back tomorrow for the beginning of our “Twelve Beers of Christmas (in Six Days)”. It will be a wonderful mix of seasonal and rarer brews we have been enjoying over the holidays. Here is a sneak peek at one of the brews that will be featured.
